  The waiter/barman was pleasant, polite and presentable, he appeared however, to be the only person actually on duty that evening. My friend and I had aperitifs in the cosy lounge before we went to our table where we made our choices from the menu . Both of us were hungry by this time so were a little disappointed to be told that our selections had sold out, it was only about 7pm. After perusing the menu for alternatives, we made our decisions only to be told my friend's dish was available but mine was not. By now I was half-way through a bottle of wine, had we not been looking forward so much to a good catch-up chat, we might have considered moving on to another restaurant at this point but we'd got comfortable in the chairs and were both tired after a long day at work. When eventually the food did arrive it was very nice and of course the Gourmet Society card discount helps to forgive the shortcomings of a handy local inn.

  I used to love going here, its very local to my family. On 3 occasions now, as a pescatarian, I've been here to eat, only to find that the most serviced dish (risotto both fish and veggie) are ALL off. This time, the waitress was nice, but everything was wrong - dirty cutlery, nothing on we wanted, the dishes we got were just OK, the chips we ordered, half way down the basket, my friend pulled one out with meat gravy on it - made it look like it had been cobbled together off someone else's plate... they need to get their act together as we won't be back now for food I'm afraid.

  we stayed here for two nights for a wedding and the staff, food, room and wedding function were fantastic, nothing was to much trouble and made us feel very welcome.
